How to Use the Context Area to Enhance Your Progress Notes

Add background information and private notes to improve your clinical documentation quality

Updated over a month ago

What is the Context Area?

The Context area is a powerful feature in Nextvisit AI that allows you to provide additional background information and private notes to enhance the quality of your progress notes. Think of it as your "behind-the-scenes" notepad that helps the AI better understand the patient's situation without disrupting your patient interaction.

Key Benefits of Using Context

Silent Note-Taking: When using the recorder feature, you can type important details in the Context area without saying them out loud to the patient. This is particularly useful for sensitive information or clinical observations you want to document privately.

Enhanced Documentation Quality: By providing relevant background information, you help the AI generate more comprehensive and accurate progress notes.

Comprehensive Patient Picture: Include details about medications, conditions, allergies, family history, and other relevant clinical information that may not come up naturally in conversation.

How to Use the Context Area

  1. Access the Context Field: Look for the Context area in your Nextvisit AI interface before or during your patient encounter.

  2. Add Relevant Information: Type any of the following:

    • Current medications and dosages

    • Known allergies and reactions

    • Relevant medical history

    • Family history details

    • Previous treatment responses

    • Clinical observations

    • Private notes about the patient's condition

  3. Update During the Session: You can continue adding information to the Context area throughout your patient encounter as new details emerge.

Pre-filled Context Information

Important Note: The Context field may already contain information that has been automatically populated from our system integrations. This pre-filled data represents what Nextvisit AI already knows about the patient from:

  • Previous encounters

  • Medication lists

  • Allergy information

  • EHR integration data

  • Other automated sources

Review this pre-filled information and add any additional context that would be helpful for generating your progress note.

Best Practices

  • Be Specific: Include specific details like medication names, dosages, and dates when relevant

  • Stay Clinical: Focus on medically relevant information that will improve documentation

  • Update Regularly: Add new information as it becomes available during the encounter

  • Review Pre-filled Data: Check any automatically populated information for accuracy and completeness

Example Context Entries

  • "Patient has been non-compliant with metformin 500mg BID for past 2 weeks"

  • "Family history of CAD - father had MI at age 52"

  • "Patient appears anxious about upcoming procedure"

  • "Previous adverse reaction to penicillin - hives and swelling"

By effectively using the Context area, you'll help Nextvisit AI create more accurate, comprehensive, and clinically relevant progress notes that better serve your documentation needs.
