Understanding Progress Note Templates

Learn about the different templates available and how to choose the right one for your patient encounters

When creating a progress note in Nextvisit AI, you'll see several template options to choose from. Each template is designed for different types of encounters and offers varying levels of detail and processing time.

Available Templates

SOAP Note (Standard)

  • Processing time: Less than 10 seconds

  • Patient history review: Essential information only

  • Detail level: Standard amount of detail

  • Best for: Shorter sessions and routine follow-ups

  • Plan requirements: Available on all plans

SOAP Note (Advanced)

  • Processing time: Around 25 seconds

  • Patient history review: Deep analysis of patient history, timeline of events, and family history

  • Detail level: More comprehensive, tells the patient's story and journey

  • Best for: Behavioral health sessions and encounters up to 2 hours

  • Plan requirements: Requires a paid plan

SOAP Note (PRO)

  • Processing time: Around 1 minute

  • Patient history review: Comprehensive analysis of all patient history

  • Detail level: Most detailed option with complex review of medications, conditions, and outcomes

  • Best for: Complex cases requiring thorough documentation

  • Plan requirements: Requires a paid plan and uses an additional 0.5 note credits

New Patient Intake

  • Processing time: Similar to Advanced

  • Patient history review: Deep analysis with intake-specific elements

  • Detail level: Comprehensive with intake components

  • Best for: First-time patient visits

  • Plan requirements: Requires a paid plan

Note: Therapists will also see a "DAP Note" template option. Additional templates may be available depending on your profession and account type.

Changing Templates After Creation

If you've already created a progress note and want to use a different template:

  1. Click the Change Template button

  2. Select your preferred template

  3. Click Reprocess

Keep in mind that each time you reprocess a note, it will use an additional note credit.

Customizing Your Templates

Note Components

In AI Settings, you can select specific note components to include, such as Therapeutic Intervention.

AI Instructions

Use the AI Instructions area in AI Settings to add custom requirements like:

  • "Use concise bullet points"

  • "Add a statement confirming patient consent"

  • Any other specific formatting or content requirements

Choosing the Right Template

Consider these factors when selecting a template:

  • Session length: Standard for shorter visits, Advanced or PRO for longer sessions

  • Complexity: Use PRO for patients with multiple conditions or complex medication regimens

  • Time sensitivity: Standard processes fastest, while PRO takes the longest

  • Plan limitations: Advanced and PRO require paid plans

The right template depends on your specific needs, the complexity of the patient encounter, and how much detail you require in your documentation.
